Need to give your fundraising a jump start?! Here are some ideas and tips for raising money for your local office of the Autism Society and/or our event, Akron Walks and Runs for Autism!! Whatever method you choose to raise funds, you will need to be armed with information about autism and the Autism Society, and be sure to thank your donors!!
Fundraising ideas
Letter writing campaign: Whether you send e-mails or mail letters with your personal goals, a letter writing campaign has proven to be the most effective form of fund raising.
Schedule a game night: Host a Monopoly, poker, bingo or other game night and charge admission.
Host a spring cleaning yard sale: Sell your unwanted items and put the profit towards your goal. If family/friends don’t want to give money, suggest that you sell their unwanted items and keep the profit. You can have a garage sale or list items on ebay.com!
Host a dinner party: Throw a great dinner party and charge admission!
Host a block party: Invite your neighbors to a neighborhood block party. Sell food and charge admission.
Bake Sale: Hold a bake sale at work, church, or school or sell donuts, bagels and coffee in the morning.
Raffles: Ask a local merchant to donate a prize to be raffled. Or you can do a 50/50 raffle where the winner keeps 50% of the proceeds, and 50% goes to the Autism Society. Make tickets and start selling!
Car Wash: Get your team together on a weekend to hold a car wash. Some good places to have a car wash are parking lots of fast food restaurants, grocery stores and churches. Be sure to check with the owners before setting up!
Guest Bartender Night: Be a guest bartender at a local bar or restaurant! Once you lure your friends to the bar or restaurant, have fundraising opportunities there.
Sports Event: Ask friends and family to sponsor your child for every score their team makes! Name it: Score for Autism!
Fundraising Ideas at Work
Approach your company: Many companies will give a flat donation and many others have a matching gift program. Ask your Human Resources department for details.
Dress Down Days: Ask your company (or friends’ companies) to conduct a “Dress Down Day” for their employees. Designate a day, series of days or a week and charge to dress casual for the day.
Snack Bar: Set up an inexpensive snack bar. Every day employees purchase snacks –
sandwiches, chips, cookies, juices and soft drinks, with all the proceeds going toward your fund raising goal.
Coin Saving: Ask coworkers to save their change for you for a month. Give them decorated cups. At the end of the month, have a counting lunch!
